MATTHEW MULBERRY

Having studied theatre and entertainment lighting at City of Westminster College in London, he went on to work at West End theatres and TV studios, before joining the ROH (Covent Garden, London) in 1994. After his first project, Tosca in 2001, he went on to work closely with lighting designers and directors on numerous ballets and operas. Since 2013, he has been working as a lighting designer. He has taken productions on tour in Japan, America, Spain, Cuba, Taiwan, including La traviata (2010), Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (Royal Ballet, 2013), Romeo and Juliet, as well as Giselle (2016), Don Quixote (2019) and the productions of Rigoletto and Turandot (ROH, 2024). He has worked on the 2014 and 2015 BAFTA award ceremonies and the lighting revivals for the RBO productions of Andrea Chénier (Beijing) and Theodora (Madrid). Recently he was the lighting designer for Antonio Pappano Farewell Concert at the ROH. He has collaborated with the GNO in the productions of Lucia di Lammermoor (2018) and Simon Boccanegra (2019).
