RODULA GAITANOU

Greek stage director, she is the recipient of the ARGO award for Arts and Culture in 2022 and was shortlisted in the category “Director of the Year” at the 2019 International Opera Awards. Her productions have been nominated for various awards in Ireland, Denmark and Australia. Recent engagements include La traviata (Norwegian Opera, Oslo), Rusalka (Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège, Liège), Nabucco (Savonlinna Opera Festival), Carmen (Opera Theatre of St. Louis, USA), Madama Butterfly (Teatro Grande of Brescia and Estonian National Opera), La fanciulla del West (Opera Hedeland, Denmark), etc. She trained as a violinist at the Musical Horizons Conservatory in Athens, studied musicology at the Sorbonne University in Paris, opera staging at Paris 8 – Saint Denis University and joined the Laboratoire d’Étude du Mouvement of the International Theatre School Jacques Lecoq. She is a former member of the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme at the Royal Opera House in London, where she lives. For the Greek National Opera, she has also staged the operas La Cenerentola (2013) and Così fan tutte (2014).
