ELENA ZAYTSEVA

Born in St Petersburg, in 1991 she graduated from the Theatre Production Faculty of the St Petersburg Academy of Theatre Arts. Between 1990-1995 she worked for Lenfilm Studio and till 2001 for the Mariinsky Theatre. She was Head of the Costume Department at the New Opera Company (2001-2003) and then joined the Bolshoi Theatre as Head of Costumes’ atelier. She has been awarded with the honorary title “Artist of Russia” and has created costumes for ballet productions such as The Sleeping Beauty (Mariinsky Theatre), Giselle (Zaritsinskaia Opera), Le Corsaire (Bolshoi Theatre), Swan Lake (Astrakhan State Opera and Ballet Theatre), Paquita (Bolshoi Theatre) and opera productions such as Der fliegende Holländer (Mariinsky Theatre), Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk (Bolshoi Theatre), The Gambler (Berlin State Opera), Wozzeck (Bolshoi Theatre), Don Giovanni (Aix-en-Provence, Bolshoi Theatre), Iphigénie en Aulide and Iphigénie en Tauride (Aix-en-Provence). Moreover, she has designed costumes for drama (L’Alouette, Holy Monsters) and film productions (Time for Sorrow Hasn’t Come Yet, The Principled and Compassionate View of Ali K).
