DMITRI TCHERNIAKOV

He was born in Moscow. He graduated from the Russian Academy of Theatre Arts in Moscow and since then he has directed opera and theatre productions across Russia, Europe and the USA. Long considered to be one of the most renowned directors in opera, Tcherniakov has received various accolades throughout his career including the International Opera Awards in the categories “Best Director” and “Best Production”, the Franco Abbiati Music Critics’ Award (2008) and the Spanish prize National Campoamor Lyrics Award (2014). He has also been awarded the Russian National Theatre Prize “Golden Mask” four times, and Opernwelt magazine has on several occasions named him Stage Director and Stage Designer of the year. Except directing, Tcherniakov designs also the sets for all his productions. This is the first time he works with the Greek National Opera.
