THIAGO BORDIN

Born in 1983, Brazilian-German ballet dancer and choreographer began his dance studies in his hometown São Paulo (Escola Municipal de Bailado, nowadays Dance School of São Paulo) and took his dance diploma from the Akademie des Tanzes in Mannheim, Germany, with a scholarship from the Tanzstiftung Birgit Keil. He began his professional dance career in 2001 with the Hamburg Ballet. For four years he was a member of the Corps de ballet, in 2005 he became a Soloist and in 2006 a Principal Dancer.
Over the years John Neumeier created for him different roles, such as the Angel (Christmas Oratorio) and Walter Gropius (Purgatorio). Moreover, Bordin danced leading roles in Neumeier’s ballets such as Romeo (Romeo and Juliet), King (Illusions: Like Swan Lake), Oberon (A Midsummer Night’s Dream), Prince (The Nutcracker), Othello and Nijinsky, as well as Armand (The Lady of the Camellias). With the Hamburg Ballet he also performed Solor (La Bayadère by Natalia Makarova) and James (La Sylphide by Pierre Lacotte), as well as numerous other lead roles from choreographers like John Cranko, George Balanchine, Frederick Ashton, Jerome Robbins and Christopher Wheeldon.
Bordin has been creating choreographies since 2001. He has choreographed works for the Bundesjugendballett and Hamburg Ballet, the Akademie des Tanzes in Mannheim, the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe (Germany), as well as for the São Paulo Companhia de Dança (Brazil).
He has received numerous awards: Best up-and-coming Young dancer in Joinville (Brazil, 1997) and First prize from the Tanz- stiftung Birgit Keil (Germany, 2000). He was Finalist of the Prix de Lausanne (2000) and the Grand Prix for the Eurovision Young Dancers (London, 2001). In 2005 he received the German Dance Prize “Future” (category: Choreographers), and in 2010 the Premio Positano Léonide Massine and the Benois de la Danse in Moscow for his interpretation of Armand in The Lady of the Camellias.
As a guest he has performed worldwide: in New York (Ballet Tech, Eliot Feld), Paris (Gala des Étoiles du XXIe siècle), Tokyo (World Ballet Festival), Vail Colorado (Morphoses / Wheeldon Company), Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Athens, Stuttgart, Vienna, Munich and St Moritz.
From 2014 to 2017 he was a member of the Nederlands Dans Theater performing works of Hans van Manen, Mats Ek, Paul Lightfoot, Sol Léon, Crystal Pite and Marco Goecke.
In 2012 he danced at the Athens Concert Hall as a soloist with Diana Vishneva in the one-act ballet Dialogue. Since 2018 Bordin has been working as a freelancer dancer, choreographer and teacher around Europe, Brazil and Japan.
