JOSEPH ALFORD

Stage director and movement director, he is co-artistic director of the company Theatre O. He studied at the École Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq and has a BA in drama and English from the University of East Anglia. As movement director his opera and theatre credits include productions such as Ariadne auf Naxos, Pelléas et Mélisande, Alcina (Aix-en-Provence Festival), Purcell’s Miranda (Opéra Comique, Paris), Lucia di Lammermoor, George Benjamin’s Lessons in Love and Violence (Royal Opera House), Idomeneo (ENO), Hänsel and Gretel, Lucy Kirkwood’s Beauty and the Beast, Theodor Geisel’s The Cat in the Hat, Thomas Heywood’s A Woman Killed with Kindness (National Theatre, London), Dennis Kelly’s Girls & Boys (Royal Court Theatre), Julian Philips’ How the Whale Became, James MacMillan’s Clemency (ROH2), Hamlet (Royal Shakespeare Company), Brian Friel’s Dancing at Lughnasa (Theatre Clwyd). He has directed extensively and has worked as associate / co-director and performer in numerous productions.
