KATIE MITCHELL

Award-winning theatre and opera director with a career spanning 30 years and over 100 productions, in the UK and internationally. She has been an associate director at the Royal Shakespeare Company, National Theatre (London), Royal Court Theatre and a resident director at the Schaubühne (Berlin), Deutsches Schauspielhaus (Hamburg), Aix-en-Provence Festival. She has won numerous awards for her directing and an OBE for services to theatre. Her opera productions include Written on Skin, Lucia di Lammermoor, Theodora (ROH), Alcina, Trauernacht, Pelléas et Mélisande (Aix-en-Provence Festival), Kát´a Kabanová, Jephtha, Jenůfa (WNO), Le Vin herbé, Al gran sole carico d’amore, Neither (Berlin State Opera). Her numerous theatre productions include Bluets, Happy Days, The Cherry Orchard, Orlando, Fräulein Julie, Ophelias Zimmer, Cleansed, Waves, Women of Troy, The Seagull, Three Sisters, Phoenician Women, A Woman Killed with Kindness, Easter. She is well known for her work on climate change, her advocacy for women and young people, and for her pioneering creative work in “live cinema”.
