Nicolas Tzortzis

Born in Athens, he lives and works in Paris. He studied composition and electronic music at the University of Paris 8, music theatre with Georges Aperghis at the Hochschule der Kunste in Bern and composition with Philippe Leroux at the Université de Montréal. He was chosen for the Cursus programme 1 and 2 of the IRCAM (Institute for Research and Coordination in Acoustics / Music). He has been an artist-in-residence at Herrenhaus Edenkoben, Villa Ruffieux, Akademie Schloss Solitude and a Fulbright visiting scholar at the University of California, Berkeley. He has won distinctions in 35 composition competitions, winning 23 awards. His discography consists of six CDs, including the monographic CD Les Mystères with Das Neue Ensemble. He taught at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki as well as in composition seminars in Italy, Spain and Greece. His works have been performed in Asia, America, Australia, and Europe by ensembles such as Das Neue Ensemble, Court-Circuit Ensemble, Ensemble MusikFabrik, Arditti Quartet, TM+, Quatuor Béla, Soundinitiative, Earplay, ERGON Ensemble, ARTéfacts Ensemble, Athens State Orchestra, Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra, etc.
