Lukas Schneider

Born in Germany, he began playing the viol in 2014 while studying with Philippe Pierlot in Spa. In 2015, he was admitted to the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben, a foundation promoting outstanding musical performance, and in 2016, he was awarded the first prize in the Jugend Musiziert National Competition in the solo viola da gamba category. In 2018, he joined the viola da gamba class of Marianne Muller at the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique de Lyon (CNSMDL), graduating in 2021 with honours. This was followed by master’s studies in the classes of Myriam Rignol at the CNSMDL and Philippe Pierlot at the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles (KCB). He has performed in concert with Philippe Pierlot, Ensemble Correspondances, La Nébuleuse, Ensemble La Française, etc. In projects such as Feu with Benjamin Lazar and Claire Lefilliâtre and Nuit funèbre (Opéra de Lyon, 2022, directed by Simon-Pierre Bestion), he combines early music, improvisation and theatre. In 2024, he made his debut as a soloist in Georg Friedrich Händel’s The Resurrection at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg (Les Musiciens du Louvre, Marc Minkowski).
