The soprano Sophia Kyanidou, the baritone Anthony Kordopatis and the pianist Dimitris Yakas explore the archetypal figure of Eve in a recital of vocal works featuring settings of poems by the Belgian Charles van Lerberghe by composers Paul Lacombe and Gabriel Fauré, excerpts from the oratorio Ève (1875) by Jules Massenet and Italian poetry by Dionysios Solomos set to music by Yannis Stavrakas.
 
 

BRIEF BIOGRAPHICAL NOTES

Dimitris Yakas

He was born in Athens and received his piano diploma from the National Conservatory (class of Myrto Mavrikou). He continued his musical studies at the École Normale de Musique in Paris, in piano, chamber music and music preparation of opera. Then he began studying music accompaniment with Dalton Baldwin. From 1982 to 1991 he worked as a pianist – musical trainer at the Paris Opera and also at the Lyon Opera after the invitation of its music director, Kent Nagano. At the same time, as a pianist, he was accompanying singers in Paris, as well as in many other cities and festivals in France. From 1990, he settled again in Athens, where he began a regular collaboration with the Greek National Opera and the Athens Concert Hall. He regularly accompanies Greek and international singers in concerts in Greece and abroad.

 

Anthony Kordopatis

Born in Athens in 1998. He began his singing studies with Eleni Melissidi, completing them at the Kodály Conservatory. He also studies with the renowned bass Dimitri Kavrakos of the Metropolitan Opera, whose guidance has been instrumental to his artistic development. He has performed in productions of the Greek National Opera, including Offenbach’s La Belle Hélène (by Kornilios Selamsis), Pénélope by Fauré, and Die Fledermaus by Strauss II. He has collaborated with major orchestras, such as the Athens Philharmonia Orchestra, and, in 2018, he performed with the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation National Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Michalis Economou.

 

Sophia Kyanidou

Greek soprano, she studied at the New Conservatory of Thessaloniki under Varvara Tsambali and at the Vienna Academy of Music with Helene Karusso, Kurt Equiluz and Curt Malm. At the Greek National Opera, among others, she has sung Antonia (Les Contes d'Hoffmann), Micaëla (Carmen), Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), Echo (Ariadne auf Naxos), Kyra (Kalomiris' The Mother's Ring), Gertrud (Hänsel und Gretel), Aksinya (Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk). Moreover, in Austria she has sung Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) and Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus). She has performed with Armonia Atenea, Athens and Thessaloniki State Orchestras, Greek Music Ensemble, Orchestra of Colours, Athens Chamber Orchestra at the Megaron – The Athens Concert Hall, Thessaloniki Opera, at the Vienna State Opera and the Musikverein (Vienna). Her repertoire includes Samaras' La martire (Wuppertal Opera), Iphigénie (Iphigénie en Tauride), Leonora (Fidelio) and Elvira (Ernani) in cooperation with the artistic ensemble Greek Opera, while recently she sang Strauss' Four Last Songs (London, I maestri). Her repertoire ranges from Baroque to contemporary composers. During her last years, she had been studying with Daphne Evangelatos. For the last three years, she has been attending theatre classes at the Theatre of Changes, Athens.
