The musical performance At St. Luke's Monastery is inspired by the poem of the same name by Angelos Sikelianos and the poem Christ Has Risen by Michalis Ganas. In an effort to emphasize the poets' deep religious feeling and spiritual quest through music, the performance follows the structure of Sikelianos' poem and presents the various scenes through a combination of music, recitation and theatrical action. The final scene is the poem by Michalis Ganas, which creates a dialogue between two different poetic worlds. The performance ends with a scene filled with light and music, symbolizing the victory of life over pain and death.
BRIEF BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE
Michalis Kalogerakis and Pantelis Kalogerakis
Born in Crete in 1992, Michalis Kalogerakis (composer, musician) and Pantelis Kalogerakis (actor and performer) are two artists who experiment with poetry. After their first album, Voukolikon (2015), they pursued a career with major collaborations with artists such as Maria Farantouri, Lena Kitsopoulou and Martha Frintzila, as well as performances in Greece and abroad (France, Germany, Luxembourg). In 2024, they released their new album, Melpomeni's Tales. Overall, they have released seven albums featuring musical adaptations of poems by Michalis Ganas, Katerina Anghelaki-Rooke, Nikos Moschovakos, George Chronas and Carol Sansour. They have collaborated on various projects with the Greek National Opera, Athens Concert Hall, Athens Festival, and the Ministry of Culture. The work of the Kalogerakis brothers highlights the richness of poetry by combining original musical compositions with Action poetry in a contemporary and alternative approach.
