The concert features two recent religious works that intertwine mystery and deep spirituality, setting devotional texts from the Orthodox Christian tradition. Funeral Ikos (1981) by John Tavener and O Holy Father Nicholas (2021), by Arvo Pärt, both leading figures in the tradition of so-called "holy minimalism," will be performed by distinguished choristers in a unique, moving and inspiring performance.

BRIEF BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

Pavlos Kordis
Born in Athens, in 1993. He studied historical musicology in Athens and choral conducting in New York. He holds a PhD from the University of Athens. He teaches as an adjunct professor at the Department of Music Studies (National and Kapodistrian University of Athens). He collaborates with the Onassis Stegi and Panteion University for the "Music connects the Onassis Stegi and Panteion University" programme. As a conductor he has worked with choral and orchestral ensembles in Greece, USA, UK, Czech Republic and Sweden. He composes music for television, theatre and art installations. He has presented his research work in international conferences, journals and other research publications.
