Biographies 42
Maria Greek soprano, she started piano and theory of music
lessons at the Municipal Conservatory of Ioannina
Tsironi and continued her studies in classical singing first
in Thessaloniki and then in Athens, where she also
completed her studies. She graduated from the National
Hélène Conservatory with honours and first prize, and also from
the Early Music department of the Athens Conservatoire
with honours. Throughout her studies she has
participated in numerous singing and acting seminars.
She has given a series of concerts and has performed
roles such as Barbarina and Susanna in Le nozze di
Figaro, and Mrs Gobineau and Monica in Menotti’s
The Medium. She is also a founding member of the
Abnormal Artist ensemble, which combines classical
music with different art forms.
Smaragda Greek soprano, she began music studies at a young age
with piano, flute and singing classes, and she also was
Vangeli a member of the Harmonia children’s choir in Preveza.
She studied classical singing at the International Athens
Conservatoire with Martha Arapis (receiving a first class
Hélène honours diploma and first prize). She has also studied
classical and modern dance, music theatre and acting
and she is a graduate of the Agricultural University of
Athens. She has performed as a soloist and chorister in
opera and musical productions (Carmen, Giulio Cesare,
El Greco, The Apaches of Athens, The Phantom of
the Opera, etc.) as well as in concerts at theatres and
other venues in Greece (Athens Concert Hall, Municipal
Theatre of Piraeus, Pantheon Theatre, Pallas, Veakio,
etc.). At the same time, she performs in theatres and
festivals giving solo concerts with a repertory ranging
from film music, music theatre, and operetta to music
from the Mediterranean and retro songs.
