Educational Programme 9
A few words The groundbreaking educational programme Opera
Interactively Into Schools for secondary education
about the schools is the continuation of the respective
programme that had been implemented to great
educational success by the Greek National Opera in primary
schools from 2012 to 2015. The programme is co-
programme funded by the European Union – European Social
Fund (ESF) and National Resources NSRF 2014-
2020 through the Operational Programme “Human
Resources Development, Education and Lifelong
Learning”.
Adapted to the modern digital age and the social
concerns of present-day teenagers, the programme
aimed at familiarizing students with the art of opera
through their participation in Kornilios Selamsis’
interactive opera performance Offenbach’s La belle
Hélène to a libretto by Alexandra K*. The performance
was directed by Yannis Kalavrianos, with sets,
costumes and video animation by Petros Touloudis,
movement by Marianna Kavallieratos and lighting by
Nikos Vlasopoulos.
A further goal of the programme was to provide
educators the necessary know-how so that they
would be able to prepare their own music theatre
performances in schools in the years to come.
