Educational Programme 11

This year the programme Opera Interactively Into
Schools travelled across Junior High Schools all
over Greece with the goal of giving teenagers an
original tour of the multi-faceted world of opera.
Exploring the creative process behind the scenes,
both in terms of time and space, and encouraging
artistic experimentation and discovery through the
multilevel and interartistic nature of the opera genre,
are the key principles of this educational programme’s
design. Opera Interactively Into Schools is here to
introduce opera as an educational tool but also as a
network similar to that of the school community, where
conversation, sharing and the feeling of belonging
are structural elements for fostering free expression,
                                   development and progress.

The students in the schools visited by the Greek
National Opera participated actively in the programme
and had the chance to feel up close the creative pulse
of the making of a performance and get involved in it
experientially. Under the guidance of the programme’s
educators they took part in artistic workshops and
co-created original sound, music and visual material
that was integrated in the flow of the performances
presented in schools, concluding thus the Greek
                                   National Opera’s two-day visit.
