 It is announced that, following the GNO’ s indicated precautionary measures against the Covid - 19 virus, the GNO will postpone the announced audition for dancers (ref. no.: 247/21-1-2020) until further notice. A new announcement regarding the new date of the audition and the dispatch of the invitations will follow.

Mr Giorgos Koumendakis’ term as Artistic Director of the Greek National Opera has been renewed by a decision of the Minister of Culture and Sports Mrs Lina Mendoni. Mr Koumendakis’ second three-year term began on 5 February 2020.

On Monday, February 3rd, 2020, ticket presale began for the Greek National Opera’s productions that will be presented from April to June 2020. Tickets are on sale at the GNO Box Office, at the Public Stores, on ticketservices.gr and on nationalopera.gr


To meet its needs for the 2020-2021 artistic period, the Greek National Opera hereby announces an audition to hire eight (8) male or female ballet dancers (principals, soloists and corps de ballet dancers). The audition will take place on Sunday 29 March and Monday 30 March 2020, at the Greek National Opera’s ballet studios at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (364 Syngrou Ave., GR-17674).

The Greek National Opera welcomed 2020 with a big press conference at the Stavros Niarchos Hall in the SNFCC, on Thursday 9 January. The Greek National Opera’s Artistic Director Mr. Giorgos Koumendakis presented the first annual activity report of the GNO’s artistic outreach strategy which is supported by a grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) [www.SNF.org] , announced important new steps and presented the new international campaign which will promote the GNO’s work in Greece and abroad.

The Learning & Participation department of the GNO in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Athens are launching two Gamelan Orchestra workshops from January to April 2020. The aim of the workshop is to create the first Gamelan Orchestra in Greece and to introduce its members to the Gamelan music of Java and repertoire of contemporary classical music that uses Gamelan instruments.
