Four additional performances for La bohème on 14, 16, 19, and 23 March 2025, due to the complete sellout of December and January tickets

Following the complete sellout of tickets for the first six performances of La bohème, the Greek National Opera announces four additional performances on 14, 16, 19, and 23 March 2025 in the Stavros Niarchos Hall at the SNFCC. The tickets for the extra performances will be released on 5 December 2024 at 9.00 and will be available for purchase at the GNO Box Office and ticketservices.gr.

The performance schedule for La bohème is now as follows:

21, 27, 29, 31 December 2024, 2, 5 January & 14, 16, 19, 23 March 2025

The stage direction for this production of the famous opera La bohème carries the signature of Graham Vick – “the man saving opera in Britain” (Telegraph). His successful reading of La bohème, transferring its plot from 19th-century Paris to 21st-century Athens, has created a landmark performance in the history of Greek opera. The sets and costumes were designed by Richard Hudson, Giuseppe di Iorio created the lighting, and Ron Howell was in charge of the movement. Katerina Petsatodi was responsible for reviving the stage direction.

La bohème is based on the novella Scènes de la vie de bohème (Scenes of Bohemian Life) by Henry Murger. Set against the backdrop of an icy Paris at Christmastime, the plot of this opera tells of the love between the poet Rodolfo and the seamstress Mimì, from the moment they meet to the moment of her death from consumption.

With his powerfully evocative music, Puccini makes audiences run the whole gamut of emotions in sublime ways: carefreeness, joy, great love, and despair.

The roles of the bohemian company will be sung by world-class soloists and celebrated Greek protagonists from the GNO.

On 21, 27/12, and 5/1, Rodolfo will be portrayed by the acclaimed tenor Ivan Magrì, who is known to the GNO audience from his performance in the 2022 production of Faust.  The role of Mimì will be performed by South Korean soprano Anna Sohn, who is set to return to Athens following her successful performance as the title character in the production of Madama Butterfly that was presented at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus in 2023.

On 29, 31/12, and 2/1, the leading couple will be portrayed by two of the Greek audience’s most cherished artists: Yannis Christopoulos, one of the most acclaimed tenors of his generation, and the distinguished soprano Vassiliki Karayanni.

In March performances, a tenor of the younger generation, Konstantinos Klironomos, will take on the role of Rodolfo alongside the acclaimed soprano Anna Stylianaki, who will perform as Mimì.

In the performances scheduled for December and January, the role of Marcello will be sung by emerging baritone Nikos Kotenidis, while internationally renowned baritone Dimitris Tiliakos will perform it in the March shows.

Musetta will be portrayed by two sopranos of the younger generation, Danae Kontora and Annie Fassea.

The cast also features Marios Sarantidis, Vangelis Maniatis, Tassos Apostolou, Kostis Rassidakis, Thanassis Evangelou, Ioannis Kontellis, and Yannis Stamatakis.

Jacques Lacombe will conduct the December to January performances, and Konstantinos Terzakis will conduct the March performances.

Agathangelos Georgakatos will lead the GNO Chorus and Konstantina Pitsiakou, the GNO Children’s Chorus.
