Open call to participate in the Intercultural Choir of the Greek National Opera

GNO Learning & Participation make an open call to permanent or temporary residents of Athens, professional and amateur musicians from all communities of the city, to become members of the Intercultural Choir of the Greek National Opera.

This year, the Intercultural Choir will further expand its repertoire, combining the songs of the world's folk traditions with contemporary vocal music. The connection of the voice with the body, movement and improvisation will be for another year basic tools of musical co-creation and free expression. Moreover, for the new season of the Intercultural Choir, GNO Learning & Participation are planning new collaborations, concerts in Athens, as well as a concert outside Athens. Choir rehearsals take place on a weekly basis at the Greek National Opera at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center.

In this context, we invite new members with an appetite for singing and for exploring new music to join our force. The selection of new members will be made with a view to highlighting the cross-cultural character of the Choir and the balanced representation of all age groups and vocal categories.

A few words about the Intercultural Choir:

The Intercultural Choir began its journey in 2016, with the formation of a diverse group of Athenians, which brings together different ethnicities and musical traditions. Since then, the members of the Intercultural Choir join their voices and through their concerts and their artistic collaborations, they highlight the immediacy and power of song and music every time. The Intercultural Choir has performed concerts at the Alternative Stage of the Hellenic Greek Orthodox Church in the SNFCC, in various squares of Athens, at the Eleftherios Venizelos Airport and also at the Summer Nostos Festival of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation. It has also collaborated with the Gothenburg International Opera Chorus under the direction and in works of the composer Trevor Grahl.
