This one-act “musical drama,” as it is defined by the composer, is set on an Easter Sunday afternoon at a remote chapel in a Greek seaside hamlet in 1850. The libretto is based on the play of the same title by Theodoros Synadinos and belongs to the broader verism movement, enriched with folk song elements.
