KORNILIOS MICHAILIDIS

Greek conductor. He ranks among the leading internationally up-and-coming conductors of his generation in the symphonic and operatic repertoire. He recently completed his term as Conductor in residence of the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, while between 2016-2017 and 2018-2020 he was assistant conductor at the Finnish and French Radio orchestras. As a guest conductor he collaborates, among others, with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Radio France, Iceland Symphony Orchestra, Russian National Orchestra, Sinfonia Lahti, South Denmark Philharmonic, National Symphony Orchestra of the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation, Athens and Thessaloniki Symphony Orchestras. Having studied music at the École Normale de Musique in Paris and the Jacobs School of Music (Indiana University, USA), he graduated in 2018 from the Sibelius Academy (Helsinki) with a master’s degree in conducting. Awarded at the 1st Mayenne International Piano Competition (France), he performed in Europe, USA and Israel. In addition, he makes notable appearances as a piano soloist. He was the director of the Beethoven Chamber Orchestra Now! of Finland (2016-2020), while since 2016 he is the artistic director of the Koufonisia Classical Music Festival. Apart from music, he is also an active pilot.
