Milko Lazar

Milko Lazar is a Slovenian composer, pianist and harpsichordist, who is currently working freelance in the fields of contemporary classical and jazz music. He studied classical piano, jazz piano and saxophone at the Music Academy in Graz, Austria, and harpsichord and baroque music at the Royal Conservatory in Den Haag, Holland. His opus includes a large number of orchestral works, operas, chamber works, vocal and jazz compositions and works for contemporary ballet performances, which have been performed internationally. Since 2008, he has regularly collaborated and performed with the world-renowned dancer and choreographer Edward Clug. Together they have staged twenty-two ballet perfor mances to date. Milko’s recent projects with Edward Clug include Faust – Das Ballett at Opernhaus Zürich in 2018, the two ballets Patterns in ¾ and Source with Stuttgart Ballet, and the ballet The Master and Margarita at Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow in 2021. As a pianist, he regularly performs piano duets with Bojan Gorišek. He was awarded the most prestigious Slovenian art prize Prešernov sklad Award in 2005, the City of Ljubljana Župančič Art Award in 2010 for his orchestral and chamber music works, and the Ksenija Hribar Award in 2021 for his work in the field of contemporary ballet and dance. At the Τheater Basel, he was responsible for the musical arrangement of the ballet performance Coppélia by Edward Clug, which was presented in the 2022/23 season.
