Theodor Milkov

Born to musician parents, he began percussion lessons at the age of eight, first with Vesela Neikova and then with Maxim Mankovsky at the Municipal Conservatory of Patras. At the age of 12, he won the First Prize at the International Music Competition Classica Nova in Hanover. Three years later, he represented Greece at the Eurovision Contest in Berlin, becoming the first Greek finalist in the twenty-five-year history of the contest. He began his solo career at the age of 15, performing with the Orchestra of Patras under the baton of Saulius Sondeckis, giving the first national performance of the Concerto for marimba and orchestra by Ney Rosauro. In the following years, he performed with the Athens Camerata – Friends of Music Orchestra under the baton of Alexandros Myrat and with the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra under Marek Janowski. He has given recitals and participated in chamber music concerts in many European countries and major international festivals. He has also collaborated with influential musicians such as Gunther Schuller and Theodore Antoniou. He studied at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold (Germany) with Peter Prommel and at the Amsterdam Conservatory with Nick Woud, Gustavo Gimeno, Peter Prommel and Jan Pustjens. In 2004-2006 he was assistant to Professor Peter Prommel at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold. He is a member of the Athens State Orchestra.
