Manuela Hartel

Versatile digital artist. She studied media art at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich, voice and performance at the Austro-American Institute of Education in Vienna and at the Centro Professione Musica in Milan. Her works have been shown in venues such as Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich, Museum of Contemporary Art Shanghai, Venice Biennale, MUTEK Montreal, Centre for Art and Media Karlsruhe and Haus der Kunst in Munich. She realises video installations for theatre, opera and concerts in venues such as Bavarian State Opera, Stuttgart State Opera, Munich Philharmonic Orchestra and in collaboration with the international contemporary dance and theatre scene. With performative video projections, she transforms churches, forests, ruins and backdrops into illusionistic locations and conceives performances and large-scale audio-visual installations in indoor and outdoor spaces. In her video and light productions, she works as a performer with voice and text, integrated with stage design and video mapping. She is supported by musicians and composers of electronic and New Music like Stavros Gasparatos, Anne Clark, Mark Andre, Konstantia Gourzi. In 2017 she developed BELOVED! for the Greek Art Theatre Karolos Koun in Athens with music by Stavros Gasparatos and participated in the Lebanon Biennale (2019) and the Bari Biennale (2020). Exhibitions with the Pinakothek der Moderne (2022) and the Neues Museum Nürnberg (2023) followed.
