Pavlos Thanopoulos

Born in Athens. He studied art history at the University of Toulouse – Jean Jaurès, received a bachelor’s degree in costume design from Wimbledon College of Arts and a master’s degree in set design from Central Saint Martin’s in London. He has worked in the costume departments of the Royal Opera House in London and the Opéra du Capitole in Toulouse. In 2004, he assisted Sophia Kokosalaki in designing the costumes for the opening and closing ceremonies of the Athens Olympic Games. He has worked on dance, theatre and opera performances with directors such as Nikos Mastorakis, Argyro Chioti – VASISTAS, Marianna Calbari, Sofia Mavragani, Maria Gyparaki, Giorgos Oikonomou, Raya Tsakiridis and Maria Maganari, and has curated numerous exhibitions at the Benaki Museum, the Jewish Museum, the Teloglion Fine Arts Foundation, the Museum of Modern Greek Art of Rhodes, etc.  From 2009 to 2012, he collaborated with Angelos Delivorrias on the curatorial and design work for the reopening of the Nikos Hadjikyriakos-Ghikas Gallery and the Interwar Generation exhibition. From 2009 to 2013, he taught costume design at the Vakalo Art and Design College.
