Eleni Skarkou

She is a composer, guitar soloist and holds a master’s degree in musicology – music technology. She is a doctoral candidate at the Department of Music Studies of the Ionian University. She is active in the fields of composition, creation of polyphonic works, the performance of guitar and electronic works, teaching, writing, planning, organisation, production and performance of cultural and scientific events, commercial films, theatre and music performances. As a guitar performer, she has collaborated with ensembles and performed as a soloist. She is engaged in research and analysis of international 20th- and 21st-century classical guitar literature, contemporary performance possibilities and new compositional currents. Her areas of research are: cognitive processes in the composition and creation of musical works, composer’s ethics in the education of the audience and computational models in the composition and interpretation of original works; the guitar in the 20th and 21st centuries: literature, new techniques and notation; composition experiments in music education. She is the Secretary of the Board of Directors of the Greek National Opera, Vice President II of the Administrative Board of the Greek Composers’ Union, a founding and permanent member of the editorial team of the GCU’s magazine Polytonon and, since 2003, as Editor-in-Chief, artistic manager, head of design, digital development and article writing, and a member of the Music Cognition Computation Community Laboratory of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
